  17. ZIPI (Zeta Instrument Processor Interface) is a proposed replacement
  18. for MIDI developed by Zeta Instruments and UC Berkeley's CNMAT (Center
  19. for New Music and Audio Technologies). ZIPI addresses many of MIDI's
  20. limitations; including bandwidth, number of channels, etc., as well
  21. as offering special control parameters for non-keyboard-based controllers
  22. such as data gloves, guitars, wind controllers, etc. Recently, the
  23. ZIPI specification has been made available by anonymous ftp at the
  24. following sites:

  33. address to zipi@cnmat.berkeley.edu for paper copies of the ZIPI specification.

  35. ZIPI may have its name changed since its creators are thinking of dropping
  36. the "Zeta" part to make it more palatable to other manufacturers. Zeta
  37. hopes to introduce the first ZIPI-compatible guitar controller (with built
  38. in synthesizer and MIDI I/O) at the Winter NAMM, followed by a high-end
  39. ZIPI-compatible synthesizer module.
